According to the Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama), fuel prices are expected to spike, following the decrease in the local unit’s value and the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in most parts of the world.
Cama executive director John Kapito explained the above to journalists during a recent workshop organized by the association, as global oil prices have recently gone up 1.1%, to $45.77 (about K33 750) a barrel. “The reduction in fuel prices was a good development for Malawi as it helped to calm the markets and we saw that benefitting everybody.” said Kapito, “the consumer should now prepare to pay higher prices.”
Meanwhile, public transport fares may also go up, as the trend on petroleum price hike.
