8 patients who were repatriated from South Africa have escaped Kameza Kameza Quarantine and Isolation Centre in Blantyre, as Blantyre District’s Director of Health and Social Services, Dr. Gift Kawalazira confirmed that the 8, along with 11 others, tested positive for coronavirus.
Repatriated Malawians from South Africa have reportedly been protesting the coronavirus tests upon arrival, as Malawi is being strict on all entrants of the country, considering that most of the confirmed cases derive from international traveling.
As of yesterday, 18 new cases of Covid-19 were announced by the Minister of Health, Jappie Mhango, who outlined out of the 18 cases, 15 of them are those that were repatriated recently from Zimbabwe while the others are a 26-year-old man who recently returned from Tanzania, a 34-year-old man and another who arrived recently from South Africa.
As of 12:20 today, Malawi has 101 confirmed cases, 37 recovered cases and 4 deaths.
