Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) has called on organisers of demonstrations enforce measures that will ensure minimal disruption to business and consumer freedoms. Cama executive director, John Kapito, outlined how businesses are being suffering amidst the demonstrations.
On the other hand, the Chairperson of the Economic Empowerment Action Group, Lewis Chiwalo, said businesses were negatively affected by the demonstrations; hence, the need to consider the interests of business persons so that economic development goals could not be disrupted.
“Consumers and traders who are being inconvenienced have different political affiliations that require to be respected for peaceful co-existence.” said Kapito, stressing that the demonstrations affect the business community at all levels, from manufacturing to small scale vendors and workers.
Cama’s concern follows a review of the first half of 2019, that has showed that businesses have been slow.
