Malawi and Mozambique have borrowed about K15bn in Euros to facilitate an electrical interconnection with the Southern African Power Pool (Sapp).
With funding from the Norwegian Trust Fund and the Word Bank, the development will see Malawi importing 50 megawatts (MW) by 2021 as a deadline.
Completion of the project will supply 300MW out of the required 351MW, but considering that Escom has been closing various deals to reach the targeted power supply, all of the 351MW will have been achieved by then.
