The Electricity Generation Company (Egenco) has announced completion of the Likoma and Chizumulu islands solar electricity projects, as Egenco spokesperson, Moses Gwaza confirmed that engineers are amidst making final touches in commissioning the stations.
Upon launching the projects, the two islands are expected to have electricity for 24 hours; Likoma project will be producing one megawatt while the Chizumulu project will be producing 300 kilowatts.
Meanwhile, Egenco spends K18 million every month on diesel generators at the two islands, as the projects will cut such costs. The two projects were earmarked to complete by July 2020 but delayed as technical teams could not fly into the country due to travel restrictions.
