Electricity Generation Company (Egenco) presented K5 million cheque to Malawi Institute of Engineers (MIE), donating towards the institute’s annual general conference. EGENCO Chief Executive Officer, William Liabunya, presented the cheque, stating that engineers form an essential part of the society.
The conference, scheduled to take place on September5-6, is budgeted at MK78 million and it will take place in Mangochi. Acknowledging the engineers, Liabunya said it would be very difficult for the country to have good and proper structures, and run the machineries, without the help of engineers.
He further said the conferences that the MIE has been having for years have also helped in enhancing the capacity of its staff and such benefits are manifested by the workers’ improved performance.
“We believe in modern and innovative ideas, the conference will, therefore, enable our staff to gain high quality skills and in turn, improve their performance,” the CEO said. Malawi Institute of Engineers Executive Secretary, Engineer Martin Chizalema commended EGENCO for the donation, stating that MIE and EGENCO are good partners and it is our prayer that this friendship will continue.
“The support received today will help us in our preparations for the event,” said Engineer Chizalema.
