The Tobacco Commission (TC) has reported that since the beginning of the tripartite elections, only 5.5 million kilograms (kg) of tobacco were sold during the week, registering the lowest of sales so far.
Still trading at$1.36 on average since the prior week, the green gold was only available on the market for 3 days only, because of the ongoing elections.
Overall, sales reached $37,737,425.99, in comparison to $62,042,270.71 made during first five weeks of sales last season, which represents a 39% dip in this years sales so far.
Hopefully the market will pickup as soon as the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) announces the national results.
