Following the announcement that fresh presidential elections are slated for 19 May this year, the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations, which were dated for 20th May, have been shifted to May 6.
The Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) Executive Director Gerald Chiunda announced that the new dates are to avoid clashing with the presidential elections which are expected to be conducted on May 19 this year.
The development is important, considering that schools are used as voting centres for the Malawi Electoral Commission. Chiunda also said that Maneb uses teachers and police officers during the administration of examinations and the same public officers are also hired by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) during elections.
