Phase 8 of Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (Marep) has finished electrifying all the planned 336 rural areas.
Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining Aggrey Masi celebrated the completion of the project, personally witnessing the launch of the Mwaye Powerline, which marked as the last project of Marep Phase 8.
The Department of Energy’s acting director of energy Joseph Kalowekamo said Marep is a government initiative that is wholly funded through a 4.5% Malawi Rural Electrification Fund levy on liquid fuels, gas and electricity sales.
