The Engineering Institution Bill that was passed as law recently, has been hailed by the Malawi Institute of Engineers (MIE), saying that the development will see the profession maximizing huge benefits.
The new law has has replaced the Engineers Act of 1972 which was considered to not be in line with the current engineering situations and environment.
The new act will regulate various engineering professions and allied industries and further makes it mandatory for continuous professional training of engineers every year before renewal of license to practice. In addition, there are stiff penalties for unprofessional behavior.
