The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) and the Electricity Generation Company (Egenco) have announced a load shedding season due to excess trash that is inconveniencing the hydro power generation.
According to a statement released,t he excess trash has been brought by excess water brought by the ongoing heavy rains.
The two firms have regretted an immense power reduction, from 326.45 megawatts (MW) to 165 MW, against a national demand of 276 MW.
In order to mitigate the balance between the current electricity demand and the available power supply, Escom has been able to generate 175 MW, whilst in efforts to increase the supply by working on clearing the trash in the respective power generation stations. In addition, Escom is implementing emergency and load shedding exercises in various parts of the country.
