The effort to rid the nation of power outages is still evident as Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with a United Arab Emirates-based solar energy developer for an additional 21 megawatts (MW) to the national grid.
The project involves power infrastructure built under the $350.7 million (about K257 billion) energy compact from the United States of America government agency, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
Escom has been criticized for performing poorly in 2018, but with power deals like this being signed, there is hope for Malawian households and businesses.
