Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism has partnered with the European Union (EU) to create awareness on trade agreements that Malawi is up to. During a private sector engagement called technical assistance initiative to equip local traders, the spokesperson of the ministry revealed further about the partnership.
Mayeso Msokera, the spokesperson for the ministry, expressed that some players in the private sector have not been taking advantage of market opportunities, hence the two parties are raising awareness on the treaties.
On the other hand, though Malawi has made progress using the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa), a report has shown that Malawi does not use the initiative to its fullest capacity. The US Trade and Investment with sub-Saharan Africa: Recent Developments Report indicates that Malawi high-priority industries and products include the agricultural and food processing, textile, apparel, footwear and leather products and jewelry. Malawi is definitely in need of more awareness where such open doors are concerned.
