Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has launched and self-sponsored K60 million FAM District Football Leagues, themed ‘Raising the Game’.
According to FAM president Walter Nyamilandu, the leagues are aimed at bridging the gap in association football between district and regional levels. The K60 million sponsorship will see the country’s 28 districts will each receive funding of between K1 million and K2 million for the leagues. “This money will come from FAM’s gate revenue.” said Nyamilandu, “This is the investment we are making by ploughing back the resources towards football development,”.
The leagues will begin as soon as government lifts the ban on meetings of more than 100. The matches will be played on a two-legged round robin format and will run alongside the country’s main football calendar.
