Police in Malawi in the Eastern district of Mangochi have recovered 2668 Live Ammunition of K2C Rifle belonging to the Malawi Defence Force. As the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) was having Operations in Makanjira, ammunition was accidentally dropped 2668 rounds worth of K2C ammunition. Sub-Inspector Misheck Chikwasa was tipped that there was a family that was keeping the ammunition, thinking it was gold.
According to Chikwasa, the family had never seen ammunition before, hence they thought the brand new gold colored bullets were gold. The family had been keeping the ammo since October 2018.
At the time, MDF swept 118 illegal miners from Namizimu Forest Reserve in Mangochi during an operation they conducted as then confirmed by both police and MDF. The then Inspector Rodrick Maida, confirmed the development, saying 90 males and 28 females had been rounded up during the operation and that they were brought to Mangochi Police Station. “Among them there are 84 Malawians – 62 males and 22 females; 31 Mozambicans – 27 males and 4 females; 2 male Tanzanians and one male DRC national,” explained Maida.
