Fattani Offset Printers have openly denied circulating news that the company was contracted to print 800,000 ballot papers for 21st May tripartite elections this year.
In a statement released by the 37 year old company, has emphasized that it has not printed any ballot papers. The statement reads; “We, Fattani Offset Printers would like to categorically refute such allegations as propagated on the social media as BASELESS, UNTRUE and MALICIOUS, aimed at TURNINSHING OUR IMAGE”
The printing company further denies affiliations to any political party. The statement reveals that the false news has been reported to Malawi Police Service for further investigations. Signed by Management, the statement reads; “We, therefore urge the public to disregard such unfortunate propaganda”
The statement has followed after Fattani Offsent Printers was mentioned in many social media posts, involving the company in the printing of additional ballot papers amounting to 800,000, according to the social media posts. Since April 2019 the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) warned of false news concerning the 2019 elections, as even MEC itself is no exception to various allegations on social media outlets. “The Malawi Electoral Commission has noted with serious concern that there is an increase of fake news.. ..the commission strongly condemns this unbecoming behaviour by a few irresponsible individuals.” read part of a statement by MEC.
