Following heavy rains that fell in Chikwawa and Nsanje districts, over 46,000 households have been affected.
As temporal resolve, 189 households have sought refuge at Matsukambiya camp, Traditional Authority (T/A) Lundu, Chikwawa. Another estimated 190 Malawian households are camping at Phokera CBCC camp in TA Mbenje, Nsanje, where 237 Mozambican families are also seeking refuge.
Vice-President Everton Chimulirenji visited the camps, donating food and non-food items to the affected and displaced households. On the other hand, Christian charity organisation Stephanos Foundation, has called on government to implement a thorough disaster assessment on affected people in Lower Shire districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje, in order to allocate enough relief to the affected people.
