Mzimba has been reporting various cases of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), 284 cases to be specific. In response, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development said the affected area is Champhira Extension Planning Area (EPA) which include Jenda, Champhira and Manyamula areas.
The officials at the ministry have noted that the FMD cases were first reported at Zioni village, then spread into further areas.
The Ministry has therefore banned the slaughter, transfer and sale of all hoofed livestock in the district.
Farmers and the general public are therefore urged to cooperate with the Ministry’s officials and security officers who are working on containing the situation.
