Exactly a month after the last fuel price review, the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has lowered prices of Petrol, Diesel and Paraffin, citing ‘changes in other macroeconomic fundamentals on the local market and their impact on energy prices’
The new prices are as follows; Petrol at K868 per litre, Diesel at K874 per litre and Paraffin at K710.50 per litre.
As usual, the public transport sector does not change its prices on announcement of price drops. This behavior, though unfair, makes sense when one considers that MERA has registered 4 fuel hikes in 2018 alone, meaning that the public transport sector’s uncertainty of the new price’s consistency is justified.
Meanwhile, Jet A-1 prices have been reduced as Biznews noted that MERA has been reviewing its prices every month since October 2018.
