Galaxy Pharmaceuticals has donated Personal Protective Equipment to the Southern Region Police, counting as the company’s second donation since the pandemic broke out in the country in April last year.

During a donation ceremony held at the Southern Region Police Headquarters in Blantyre, Business Head for Galaxy group of companies Verinder Bali outlined that the police are also front line workers, who are constantly in contact with various individuals and must be protected. “Initially, only health workers are considered front line workers, but as security officers, your services are essential to the nation, hence we have donated this PPE in support and appreciation for your work.”

 The company’s sales and marketing manager Mayank Khandelwal told the police officers present at the ceremony, with their Commissioner and Deputy, that the donation was made to demonstrate a working relationship between the common community and the  police. In agreement, Southern Region Commissioner Erobium Banda said the Police “cannot, will never achieve anything without the community.”

“Constitutionally we are mandated to enforce the law,” said the commissioner, “but we also have to interact with the community, hence we have a community policing branch to better the relationship between us”. In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner Edward Chingaipe gave thanks for the donation, outlining that the officers bemoaned the lack of PPE during their tasks. “We were receiving complaints about the shortage or lack of the equipment, so we are grateful for the donation”

The Commissioner, his deputy and officers received 300 medical masks, 40 Litres of Methylated Spirit, 480 Hand Sanitizers, 200 KN 95 masks, 10 Cotton wool packs and 2 Hand Sanitizer Dispensers.
