The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH or GIZ in short (English: German Corporation for International Cooperation), has cautioned its staff concerning the 26-30th August Demonstrations that will be held at border posts and airports. In a circular that has been sent to GIZ personnel and consultants, they have been warned against booking flights on the said dates.
“At the time of writing (14 August 2019), there is no information available on whether these protests will go ahead as announced, and if they do, the extent of any potential disruption is unclear”
On the other hand, experts have foretold that should the demonstrations happen at the border posts and airports, the country’s revenue will be crippled by K1bn. The current political tension in the country saw foreign exhibitors pull out of the Malawi International Trade Fair, due to the ongoing political crisis. Spokesperson for the Malawi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Millie Kasunda, confirmed that only three international exhibitors from Bangladesh, Mozambique and Zimbabwe attended the fair.
