Water Service Association of Malawi (Wasama) has revealed that government departments and agencies owed the country’s water boards over K30 billion in unpaid water bills by December 2019, a development that is negatively affecting operations of the water boards in Malawi.
In resolve, Wasama Executive Secretary, Dokani Ngwira, said the water boards are putting in place strategies to improve cash collection efficiencies, including installing prepaid metres and intensifying cash collection and disconnection of accounts.
On the other hand, a published audited financial statements by Malawi Properties and Investments Company (Mpico) show that government also owes the company K5.8 billion in unpaid rentals, a sum that was also accumulated by December last year.
