During a press briefing in Lilongwe, the Minister of Education Science and Technology William Susuwele-Banda announced that with immediate effect, the quota system has been abolished.

Banda said the development is to give chance to deserving students who fail to access tertiary education because of the system. Government has made the development 4 years after JCE was abolished; during JCE’s abolition, there were mixed reactions, while presidential candidates promised to bring back the abolished system if they got in power.

On the other hand, the quota system was also frowned on by many. Government has surely made a remarkable decision, as the developments will bring positive results in the education sector.
