A Daily Times reporter, Mandy Potani, spoke to Deputy Director of Mines, Peter Chilumanga, to inquiring on various issues that surround the Kayelekera Mine sale, on which Chilunga spoke on government’s behalf.
Potani outlined that the sale was not was presented to Parliament, therefore the government did not present the sale in a transparent and accountable manner by keeping the public posted on the merits and demerits of the development. In response, Chilunga stated that the sale process takes some time to complete, and government will inform the general public about the matter, upon full completion of the process.
Meanwhile, before re-opening the mine in two years, Kayelekera’s new operator, Hyle Metals, will conduct a fresh feasibility study to re-engineer mine processes.
