Following sit-ins by health workers who have demanded a raise in their risk allowances, the government has followed suit and has announced the upward revision of the risk allowances.
Figures from a statement signed by chief director in the ministry of health Bestone Chisamile, show that health workers who were getting K1,000 will now be pocketing K20,000 while those that were getting K1,800 will be getting up to K60,000 according to their grades.
Minister of Health Jappie Mhango outlined that the upward review was in consideration of input from various associations. “The Ministry of Health engaged various associations to get their input to the rates and the government has responded based on that guidance.” said Mhango.
However, the risk allowance is one of the concerns by the health workers; they are also complaining of poor work conditions, being overworked and lacking safety equipment to protect them against coronavirus.
