The workers, conjointly putting a foot down on the matter, are demanding the revision of risk allowance, transport and recruitment of more health workers. Meanwhile, Government says it is facing challenges to import equipment and materials for the fight against COVID-19 because they are increasingly scarce on the international market due to rising demand. Speaking after visiting Dedza District Hospital Tuesday, Minister of Agriculture, Francis Kasaila, said there are also delays in haulage as most airliners are grounded.
Last week, A statement by the United Nations (UN) says UNICEF is currently buying medical supplies and equipment as part of the UN’s efforts to fight COVID-19 in Malawi.
“UNICEF has focused on buying medical supplies and equipment, as well as improving the water and sanitation infrastructure, to support the ability of Government and the humanitarian community to respond,” said part of the statement, signed by United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malawi Ms. Maria Jose Torres.
