The Hindu community in Blantyre took part in the tree planting season, planting more than 3000 trees at Khungulu Primary School in Chuma Village, Group Village Head Kammanja in Blantyre.
Present at the tree planting exercise was Blantyre District Forestry’s Assistant Officer, Peter Mkwapatila, who was grateful for the Hindu community’s contribution towards reforestation in Malawi. “We commend the members of the Hindu community for showing a good example,” said Mkwapatila, “Our call to surrounding communities is to emulate this good example.”
The Hindu community’s immediate past Chairperson Vikesh Vanzara attributed the contribution to support for the governments in planting trees. “Our plea is that let us avoid careless cutting down of trees”.
The Hindu community has been contributing to various developments in Malawi; last year, the community sent more than K20 million in relief items for Cyclone Idai victims.
