Rolling out phase 3 of the Shree Hindu Seva Mandal Blantyre relief program, Hindus from the UK-Blantyre put together 32 million in relief items to over 3100 households in that were affected by the floods in Nsanje.

The donation was made at Nyachilenda School, where the recipients got a relief pack each, consisting of 25Kgs of Maize, 2kg Maize seeds, 1 Khasu, 1kg Likuni Phala, 1kg salt and 200ml Longlife Milk. Also donated at the school was 450 rolls of plastic sheeting and 1000 lanterns.

Mayur Magecha thanked his Hindu counterparts for their contributions and participation. “Their response has been overwhelming” he said, “phase 3 marks the highest donation so far and Hindus from within Malawi and outside are already contributing towards phase 4”.

The community not only donated the relief items, but visited Nsanje prior to the donation, to properly assess what was lacking. Magecha stressed that as much as donations can be given by various organizations, there should be effort to restore flood victims lives. “This is why we donated a Khasu and 2Kgs of maize seeds each; so that these tools can help the affected households to rebuild their lives”

Magecha confirmed that phase 4 of the relief program is in plan as funds are being acquired, also waiting on areas to be recommended for donation by Dodma.
