The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has called on the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to investigate the appointment of Zamara Pension Administrators Limited as administrators of public service pension funds in the country.
The HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence has raised eyebrows on the appointment, considering that Zamara Pension Administrators Limited is a Kenyan company with no foothold in Malawi and could not have been given business of this nature. “We find the award of such a serious contract that affects livelihoods of senior citizens to a company with no foothold in the country questionable.” says a letter that Trapence penned to the Bureau.
Trapence recently said the coalition expects the ACB to conduct investigations into reported cases of corruption and take action on the findings. “We note that the ACB might have been failing to conduct and conclude such investigations because of politics. Now we have a new government in place which has expressed a commitment to see all those cases resolved” said Trapence this week.
