After the June 2019 accounting examinations, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (Icam) presented awards to 31 outstanding students. Icam Chief Executive Officer, Francis Gondwe, remarked that the awards were aimed at encouraging the students to work hard in class.

“Those who are working hard are passing with flying colours, with some even scoring as high as 98% in some papers. The problem is that most students would like to pass without putting in the necessary effort” Gondwe said.

The development follows after Icam announced plans to double its membership base in 2019. Gondwe said the institution made the resolve after noting a rise in total of registered members since December 2017. In other news, Gondwe revealed that there will be an exercise to check for accountants that have not yet registered with Icam, which is a violation of Section 24 of the 2013 Public Accounts and Auditors Act, which states that individuals of the profession must register with the Malawi Accountants Boards through Icam.
