The ICT Association of Malawi (Ictam) has hailed 2019 as a year that the country embraced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions more than before. Speaking to The Daily Times, Ictam President, Bram Fudzulani, said 2019 was a year that the industry grew and got significant recognition.
Fudzulani spoke of the last ICT EXPO as one of the major strides in 2019. The Expo that happened in August, was the first ever International Expo, bringing together businesses, government, academia and end users at large. The Expo focused on Telecoms, Cyber Security, Cloud Solutions, Internet of Things, e-Commerce and Applications, Fintech and Banking and E-government.
On the other hand, the Association was also able to voice out growing concerns on internet charges with the parliamentary media committee and engaged MACRA and the telecom operators on the issue of poor service delivery. Also in March last year, Ictam opposed MRA and COSOMA’s decision to introduce 5% levy on media storage devices. In a press release, Ictam said that the ICT sector contributes to economic growth, quoting the Reserve Bank of Malawi’s recent economic review report, which also states that ICT is one of the fastest growing industries in Malawi.
