9 foreign nationals were arrested and deported on the offence of overstaying in the country, as confirmed by Central Region Immigration spokesperson Ealack Banda.
The Immigration Act Section 21(1) requires that every foreign national found in Malawi should have a legal residential permit, which the nine individuals did not have and were therefore deported.
Meanwhile, immigration officials have also confirmed detaining 14 foreign nationals at Maula Prison pending deportation. They include seven Nigerians and three Chinese. The other four are Congolese, Rwandese, Tanzanian and Kenyan.
