A circulating document signed by the Director General of Immigration and Citizenship services, has shown that due to the upcoming tripartite elections, the department has recommended a strict standby on Visa issuance.
The letter instructs that Visa issuance must be referred to the department’s headquarters, specifically visa issuance to what has been described as risky countries. The report reads, “..Visa issuance to risky countries (category 1) including Nigerians, Indians and Russians must be referred to Headquarters..”
The letter, sent to the department’s sections and all borders, has also instructed that permanent road blocks should be mounted day and night, including deportation and repatriation exercises, in readiness for the elections.
As the letter has also indicated permit inspections, border patrols and sweeping exercises, the letter has indirectly implied that citizens must carry their National Identification Cards or other familiar documentation, when traveling towards all borders.
