In November 2018, when the Hon. Vice President of India visited Malawi, India committed to extend a helping hand to Malawi by giving essential medicines. Fulfilling the promise amidst the coronavirus pandemic, India has gifted Malawi with essential medicines worth US $ 2 Million.
On top of the above, the Indian High Commission is in the process of obtaining COVID related medicines that will shortly arrive in Malawi, according to a statement by the commission. “The gift of medicines is yet another manifestation of India’s unwavering commitment to stand with Malawi.” says part of the statement.
On the other hand, India is closely working with Malawi, on a number of developmental projects including the Line of Credit worth US $ 215.68 million for drinking water projects. Other areas of cooperation are education, agriculture and health sector, with a vision to assist the people and Government in Malawi,
as the Government of India in February this year gifted 100,000 Secondary school text books and 10 fully equipped India made ambulances.
“Specifically in the health sector, the Indian Government and Indian pharma companies have ensured medicine supplies to different countries.” says the statement.
