A statement from the Malawi High Commission in New Delhi has confirmed that India has given a Line of Credit (LoC) worth $215.68 towards water supply projects in Malawi.
The LoC Malawi High Commissioner to India, George Mkondiwa on Friday, June 12 signed the LoC alongside Sudatta Mandal, the Chief General Manager of Exim Bank in India, .
According to the statement, the credit will be used for construction of a new water source for Blantyre Water Board on Shire River and associated infrastructure and the construction of a 30MW solar power plant for pumping of water. On the other hand, it will also be used for the establishment and extension of water supply schemes in the Southern Region Water Board areas of jurisdiction.
The development follows as one of Malawi Line of Credit provisions by Exim Bank of India, following LoCs in the construction of the Strategic Fuel Storage facilities in the Greenbelt Project, Construction of the Sugar Factory in Salima and the Likhubula Water Project for Blantyre City and surrounding districts.
