The Malawi Confederation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) and the Indigenous Businesses Association of Malawi (Ibam) have posted a poor first quarter performance report, attributed to the coronavirus pandemic.
MCCCI Director of Business Environment and Policy, Madalitso Kazembe, stated that initially, the most affected sectors were tourism and travel but now the corona virus has affected almost each and every business.
According to Kazembe, the second quarter looks murky, as Malawi now has confirmed cases, while trading partners have put in place very strict measures, including border shutdowns. “This makes the second quarter even tougher,” she said.
