From 8.8% in January, Malawi’s headline inflation dropped to 7.9%, as shown by figures from the National Statistical Office (NSO)
The NSO figures, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), also show that food inflation went up went up to 10.8% from 10.7%, an increase that led to maize price hike.
Non-food inflation lowered from 7.1% to 5.4%. In February, Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor, Dalitso Kabambe stated that the central bank has a target of achieving 5% inflation rate by the first quarter of 2021.
