Figures contained in the National Statistical Office (NSO) newsletter show that Malawi’s headline inflation inched up by 0.1 percentage points to 7.7% in January.
“Food inflation rate is at 4.8 percent compared to 4.3 percent registered in December 2020 while non-food inflation is at 1.3 percent compared to 0.8 percent registered in December 2020,” reads part of the newsletter.
The January inflation represents a 1.3% increase when compared to the 7.6% rate recorded in December 2020, while on the other hand, urban month-to-month inflation rate is 1.7% while urban food and non-food inflation rates stand at 2.2 and 1.3 percent, respectively.
