While touring the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) premises, Minister of Information, Civic Education and Communications Technology Mark Botomani called on MBC to diversify its portfolio in broadcasting.
Botomani saw that MBC has the potential to get the lion’s share in the broadcasting industry but it should be innovative as currently the broadcasting space has turned out to be very competitive. “I have challenged MBC to engage in a serious commercial drive because they are living in a very competitive commercial world. There are so many radio and television stations now as compared to the past. So Malawians should not be given a raw deal, MBC should be robust enough and be relevant to the market, they have the capacity to be in the lead they should just be innovative,” said Botomani, who was accompanied by senior Information officials.
He also added that MBC must provide credible news and not be a propaganda platform, therefore calling on the corporation to stand on the higher moral ground and take a leading role in providing factual and truthful information to the nation.
