According to a confirmation by the Ministry of Transport, the government plans to reopen airports for international flights in Mid-August this year.
The Ministry’s spokesperson James Chakwera outlined that while the official reopening dates are to be announced, the ministry is currently planning how to safely implement the flights amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
As of 11:15am today, Malawi registered 4491 confirmed cases, 2137 recoveries and 137 deaths. During the Peter Mutharika Administration, the Ministry recommended that airports should open for international flights in Malawi, on July 15. The development followed not long after the National Planning Taskforce on education called on the Presidential Taskforce to consider reopening Schools, Colleges and Universities on 13 July, 2020.
