GIZ and the government internship program in the oil seed sector, aimed to address skills gap. The program, funded by GIZ, attracted 101 students from University of Malawi, Mzuzu University and Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources and as of the beginning of this week, 14 interns have since secured employment.
The Secretary for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Ken Ndala, described the program as a success. “We expect training institutions to be reviewing content and curricula. The industry should also be able to identify right competencies in a systematic and professional manner,” Ndala said.
On the other hand, GIZ Malawi Program Officer, Andrew Kansungwi, said the German Government has committed to support the second phase of the skills gap project until August 2021.
