Malawi Investment and Trade Centre recorded investment pledges worth $1.49b in 2018 alone. The amount which is equal to 1.1 trillion in local currency, is a major improvement from the $400m that was recorded in 2017.
MITC has attributed the boost to receiving business projects in the energy sector, which is a capital intensive sector.
The investment pledges in energy amount to $785.5m, while agriculture receives a whopping $339.1m and tourism gets $57.7m committed to it.
The report still leaves the country with an untapped investment opportunity of almost $350m, but 2019 seems to be a promising year for the businesses invested in, hoping corruption will strictly be dealt with.
