The Ministry of Transport and Public Works has recommended that airports should open for international flights in Malawi, on July 15.
The development has followed not long after the National Planning Taskforce on education called on the Presidential Taskforce to consider reopening Schools, Colleges and Universities on 13 July, 2020.
Flights in Malawi were halted on 1st May while schools were closed on March 20th as a directive by President Peter Mutharika, as the directives were aimed at containing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. The Minister of Transport, Ralph Jooma, confirmed recommending the development to the Presidential Taskforce, which will later give feedback after due assessment.
As of 11th June at 13:55, Malawi has registered 455 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 55 recoveries and 4 deaths.
