A World Food Programme (WFP) initiative known as Find Your Feet (FYF), has provided Kakhobwe Irrigation Scheme, wort K26 million, commissioned in Balaka.
The area has the highest number of people affected by hunger due to its geographical position. Balaka district commissioner Emmanuel Bambe said their priority was irrigation farming, considering that due to the area’s geographical position, it is prone to floods and dry spells.
FYF executive director Chimwemwe Soko said depending on rain-fed agriculture will not help in this time of climate change. He said: “We have trained the community around the scheme on how to manage the facility.” he said.
