The Global Fund has given $512,939,077 (K381.1 billion) for the management of HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and building resilience and sustainable systems for health (RSSH) in Malawi.
The above has been confirmed in a letter sent to the Secretary for Treasury, Cliff Chiunda and the Global Fund Division Head for Grant Management, Mark Eldon- Edington. On the other hand, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population spokesperson, Joshua Malango, said that through the the funds, the ministry aims to save more people from the epidemics.
In detail, the funding involves the funding involves $8.9 million for HIV Prevention Programming in the categories of adolescent Girls and Young Women in High Prevalence Settings and Condom Programming, while on the other hand, Malawi will get $2 million for TB preventive treatment for people living with HIV with a family approach priority area.
Overall, the Ministry of Health says the proportion of TB/ HIV co-infected patients has reduced to 53% from 77% in 2003.
