Karonga district council demolished shops belonging to vendors who were operating their businesses in undesignated trading areas.

Moving forward, the chairperson of Karonga district council, Steve Simsokwe has emphasized that the council is working with the police to ensure that the vendors do dot return on the streets. Being serious about the matter, the city council has set aside funds to pay security agencies as similar operations have failed to take shape due to financial constraints to pay police personnel.

Simsokwe called on the leadership of Karonga market to work hand in hand in ensuring that sanity prevails in the operation. This year has seen the constant efforts by municipal and city councils, to remove vendors from undesignated areas.
