The Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) donated 25 bins worth K2 million to Karonga Central Market as a means of giving back to the community and ensuring the safety of customers.
NRWB zone manager Stanford Msongole presented the donation to Karonga Central Market chairperson Goodwin Ghambi, urging the community to practice hygiene and sanitation to contain the further spread of coronavirus.
Last month, NRWB was awarded with the 2019 Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development, by the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND). The award, worth K150 million, was attributed to recognizing the implementation of the Mzimba Integrated Urban Water and Sanitation Project. Minister of Irrigation and Water Development Charles Mchacha hailed the NRWB for putting the country on map through its hard work and commitment. According to AGFUND’s website, the idea of the Prize stemmed from Agfund’s approach to enhance development performance and support key development projects in order to achieve the goal of sustainability and investment in people. On the other hand, NRWB board Chairperson Reverend Howard Matiya Nkhoma said the money will be used for Covid-19 response programs by the board, and paying pension and some tax arrears.
