Tiger Brands, the manufacturer of KOO and Hugos canned vegetables, has recalled the products, citing defective cans.
In response, the Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) has released a statement, warning the public against consumption of the said products, which were produced from May 2019 to May 2021. “Bearing in mind that some of the products are imported into Malawi, on July 29 2021, CFTC carried out shop inspections in Lilongwe to assess the availability of the recalled product on the market.” says part of the statement, “The inspectors found that the recalled products are available in some of the shops and supermarkets.”
Consumers who have already purchased the recalled products are urged to return the same to the suppliers for proper disposition. Last week, Tiger Brands announced that 20 million canned vegetable products under the KOO and Hugo food brands, are being recalled for a side seam issue that caused the batch to leak.
