LILONGWE INTERCHANGE MISSES COMPLETION DEADLINE – Malawi News Online
The multibillion interchange at the Area 18 Round-about in Lilongwe was expected to complete in November, but the project is expected to miss its deadline, Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Matapa.
Minister of Transport Ralph Jooma, visited the site, where Matapa revealed that due to due to time taken to clear some areas, including a cemetery on, the site will be ready in February. “We are confident that, by February next year, the project will be completed. We opted to demolish the school after noting that touching the glass house or the nearby hotel would have been an extremely expensive option,” Matapa said.
The project is in tandem with Malawi Growth Development Strategy 111 and the Transport Master Plan both being Government policies articulating issues of economic growth and development in the transport sector in Malawi. The K4.93 billion Cloverleaf interchange at Area 18 round about, has seen heavy rainfall early this year, delaying the construction further.
