Last week, Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company Limited handed over a library stocked with books worth K27.6 million to Mwankhundi Primary School in Lilongwe. According to Limbe Leaf Corporate Affairs Director, Febbie Chikungwa, said the donation was part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility.
Over the years, Limbe Leaf has been in similar projects; the company has constructed six classrooms, rehabilitated a two-classroom block, built toilets and provided a borehole. Showing gratitude, the Director of Basic Education in the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Gossam Mafuta recognized the prior and recent donations by the tobacco company.
The library is stocked with teaching guides, text books, non-syllabus fiction and non-fiction books. “Our intention is to create a conducive learning environment that attracts learners and keeps them in school,” Chikungwa said. Last September, Limbe Leaf handed over a K23 million worth Community Based Child Care Centre (CBCCC) to Chipeni community in Dowa District.
